What kind of simulation?
Using computer modeling and simulation means being able to freely experiment scenarios in order to choose the optimal solution with a very realistic approach. Simulation takes into account the dynamic behavior of a system: a part waiting for another, shutdowns, shared resources, random phenomena, and so on.
Simulation (also called flow simulation, or behavioral simulation) is the only method enabling industrial managers to predict the final performance of a project. This technology covers many aspects of decision making: investment dimensioning, plant monitoring, launching of new products, changing volumes and rhythms of production and planning, as well as various fields confronted to a large variation of flows (healthcare, transportation, etc.).
Simulation uses an accurate software prototype (a model) to test various parameters. It considers a system in a comprehensive and dynamic manner, analyzing its flows (whether they are continuous, discrete, mixed or by batches) and spotting bottlenecks, saturations, underuse of resources or increase in cycle times. This approach has been tested and developed for all improvement and optimization processes, with both flexibility and precision, at a reasonable cost.
